About Sitges

The picturesque coastal town of Sitges, surrounded by the hills of the Garraf National Park, has been a popular destination for lovers of culture, art and nature since the 19th century. The narrow streets of the old town leading down to the open bay of stunning beaches, the emblematic Gothic church, and the modernist-style houses along the promenade make Sitges the perfect setting for a holiday.

The location of Sitges (35 km south west of Barcelona) couldn’t be better. It’s only a 20-minute drive (half hour train or bus journey) to Barcelona airport and a 40-minute train ride away from the city of Barcelona. The Roman city of Tarragona is only an hour away by train, and the medieval town of Montblanc and the monastery of Montserrat are other accessible day excursions. For wine lovers, a visit to one of the local vineyards and bodegas in the area is a fabulous day out. Vilafranca del Penedes, the Penedes capital, is also worth a visit, especially on market day.

With its calendar of festivals, there’s always something to surprise and entertain you in Sitges!

Eating and Drinking

High season in Sitges is July and August and the town and beaches get very busy. Out of season, the town is much quieter, but it still retains its charm, and many local residents prefer the mild winters to the busy summer season. Spring and Autumn can be particularly pleasant times to visit for those that don't like the heat of summer.
